On Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning the illegal and unjustifiable actions of the US Department of the Treasury in sanctioning Iran’s designated ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani.
The ministry views this action as yet another example of the American administration’s disregard for international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly the fundamental principle of respecting national sovereignty.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the US sanctions imposed on several members of Hezbollah in the Lebanese Parliament, as well as officials from the Amal Movement and various military and security officials in Lebanon.
The statement emphasized that these disgraceful measures aim to undermine Lebanon’s national sovereignty and sow discord within Lebanese society, adding that these actions reflect the ongoing complicity of the US administration with the aggressive and occupying Zionist regime, which perpetuates military aggression and commits heinous crimes against Lebanon.
The statement asserted that the diverse groups and factions of the Lebanese people, by maintaining their national unity and cohesion, will defend Lebanon’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. By repelling aggression and ending the occupation of the Zionist regime within Lebanon, they will ultimately thwart the regime’s nefarious goals, it added.
Additionally, the statement noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to strengthening its friendly and historical relations with the Republic of Lebanon in various dimensions, in alignment with the interests of both nations.
