Pakistan affirms ongoing border security cooperation with Iran

Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Tahir Andrabi has discussed the ongoing consultations between high-ranking officials of Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding regional matters and bilateral cooperation, adding that security cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran along their shared borders remains in place.

Andrabi made the remarks during his weekly news conference in Islamabad on Friday.
In response to a question from an IRNA correspondent, the spokesperson said that high-level contacts between Iran and Pakistan continue within the framework of bilateral cooperation.
When asked about the meetings involving Pakistan’s Interior Minister in Tehran, including a discussion with Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Andrabi said, “We have established good arrangements for security cooperation, with a significant focus on ensuring stability and security along our shared borders.”
Regarding whether Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will discuss the Middle East and Iran with Chinese leaders during his upcoming trip to Beijing, he said, “Yes, we have close coordination with China on Middle East issues.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan’s visit will be bilateral, but we will also consult with our Chinese counterparts on the ongoing diplomacy related to Iran and the United States.”
While expressing unawareness of any possible travel plans by Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to Iran, the spokesperson said, “We are a mediator and facilitator, and we strictly adhere to the confidentiality of the ongoing diplomatic process.”
