Momeni, who traveled to Kyrgyzstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, met on Friday with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Ulan Niyazbekov.
During the meeting, Momeni thanked Kyrgyzstan for supporting Iran during the recent war with the US-Israeli front and for sending humanitarian assistance. He also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The Iranian minister proposed the establishment of a joint working group between the two ministries based on a draft agreement already submitted for approval. He described the document as a framework for cooperation on border management, organized crime, and anti-drug efforts.
Referring to increased activity by Daesh and other terrorist groups, Momeni said terrorism knows no borders and expressed Iran’s readiness to share its experience in combating terrorism. He also voiced hope that Kyrgyzstan would lift visa requirements for Iranian citizens.
Niyazbekov offered condolences over the martyrdom of Iranian citizens in the recent conflict and said Iran would stand heroically against its enemies. He stressed the need for stronger cooperation against terrorism, extremism, synthetic drugs and cybercrime, saying the meeting would deepen bilateral ties and mutual respect.
