The statement was issued hours after US drones struck a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island and a radar facility in Sirik in the early hours of Saturday, prompting the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to carry out retaliatory strikes on two American air bases in Kuwait and facilities of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Referring to the repeated violations of the ceasefire by the United States, the Foreign Ministry once again urged regional countries to refrain from placing their territory and facilities at the service of the aggressor.
It noted that the US attacks on radar and coastal surveillance facilities in southern Iran, whose mission is to safeguard the country's borders and the security of shipping in international waterways, were not only a breach of the April ceasefire, but an act of aggression against sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic.
The statement also slammed the hostile and provocative US behavior, saying it demonstrates its complete disregard for the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The ministry also pointed to the Iranian response to the latest aggression, emphasizing that the powerful Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic, within the framework of the inherent right to self-defense and with full vigilance, determination and authority, gave a proportionate and effective response to aggressor.
It stated that the United States continued to pose serious risks to peace and security of the region with its adventurous actions, and that the consequences of these illegal actions will lie with the US government.
The Foreign Ministry further called on the UN Secretary-General, the Security Council, and other responsible international bodies to respond immediately and effectively to the continued flagrant violations of the ceasefire by the United States.
