Momeni made the remarks while holding talks with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev on the sidelines of the conference in the city of Bishkek on Saturday.
Referring to capacities of the 10-nation bloc, he said the SCO members, which collectively account for nearly 50 percent of the world's population with huge economic potential and opportunities, can play a very effective role in international developments.
He also stressed the need for members to take clear stances in sensitive times given that one of the goals of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is security issues.
For his part, the SCO Secretary General declared the bloc's complete solidarity with the Iranian nation and government, stating that the organization had issued four statements in support of Iran during the US-Israeli war of aggression.
Yermekbayev, former Defense Minister of Kazakhstan, also expressed hope for the establishment of lasting peace in the West Asia region at the earliest.
Iran’s Interior Minister, who headed a delegation to Bishkek, has returned to Tehran. During the trip, Momeni met with a number of foreign counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and important regional and international developments.
