FM Araghchi holds diplomatic talks on regional developments

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a series of phone conversations with regional and international counterparts, as well as an army commander, following Iran’s response to repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

On Sunday night, Araghchi discussed the latest developments with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The talks came after Iran announced retaliatory measures against the Israeli regime in response to its strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and continued attacks in southern Lebanon.
On Sunday evening, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced the start of Iran’s response operation, saying that the Israeli regime repeatedly violated the Lebanon ceasefire and escalated attacks against civilians with US backing and amid international silence.
It added that the Israeli regime had crossed all red lines by expanding its attacks in southern Lebanon and targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs despite previous warnings from Tehran.
It further reiterated that Iran had previously warned that any escalation in Beirut’s southern suburbs would prompt attacks on targets in the occupied territories. The statement also warned that further Israeli attacks or retaliation against Iran would trigger stronger and more destructive responses against the regime and its supporters.
