Iran, US still exchanging views on final text: Envoy

New York, IRNA – Iran and the United States are continuing to exchange views in an effort to reach a final text on ongoing negotiations, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations says.

Speaking to reporters after a UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on Monday, Amir Saeid Iravani said Tehran and Washington were communicating through Pakistan and were presenting and exchanging views and opinions to reach the final text.
The two sides have not yet reached the final text, Iravani said, adding that efforts to finalize the document were continuing.
Asked by an Associated Press reporter whether the process could be concluded by the end of June, the Iranian envoy replied: “We hope so. We hope so.”
Iravani also stressed that the ceasefire was “comprehensive” and covered the entire region, including Lebanon.
The status of Israeli military actions and occupation in Lebanon has remained a key point of contention in negotiations and message exchanges related to ending the war since a ceasefire was announced on April 8 by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
On June 1, US President Donald Trump told ABC News that he believed an agreement with Iran on extending the ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz could be reached “within the next week.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has also said the two sides are in the final stages of drafting a memorandum of understanding focused primarily on ending the war.
