Iran reproves Albanian PM claim, advises Rama to respect his ‘intelligent’ citizens

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei hits out at the Albanian prime minister for his provocative anti-Iran rhetoric, saying that Edi Rama should listen to his people instead of shifting the blame for the domestic outrage to other country.

“Calm down, Mr. Prime Minister! It was YOU, sir, who started this. So... you should ‘face the music’!” Baqaei wrote in a post on his X account on Tuesday, directly addressing to Rama for his recent claim that Iran is behind the ongoing protests in Albania.
“It would be wiser to show some respect for the intelligence and judgment of your own people, as a nation of rich culture and proud history. They are perceptive enough to distinguish truth from falsehood,” the Iranian diplomat advised the Albanian premier over the growing anger at a proposed $1.4 billion real estate development linked to US President Doanld Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The spokesperson further called on Rama to avoid accusing others of the self-created scenario, saying, “If you choose to sell your national sovereignty, that is your decision. You do not owe us an explanation. But when confronted by the outrage and criticism of your own public, please do not use others as a convenient scapegoat to evade accountability.”
“Instead of writing a lengthy pamphlet filled with hackneyed baseless accusations against Iran, take a moment to listen to your own people who are chanting in the streets: ‘Jo korrupsionit!’ ‘Duam drejtësi!’ and ‘Rama ik!’” the post added.
During his weekly press briefing on Monday, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, also rebuffed stereotypical claims of Rama, saying that accusations against Iran are aimed at appeasing and getting closer to the Israeli regime.
Albanian citizens have been protesting throughout the country and in the US, Canada, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, and Greece against a real estate development linked to Kushner for over a week now.
However, Rama directly accused Iran of inciting the massive protests in Tirana over the controversial Trump–Kushner resort project.
