Speaking via video link at the opening ceremony of the railway line, Pezeshkian said the government had made every effort to bring the project to completion.
This process began 22 years ago and if it had continued at the same pace, this government would have needed another three to four years to finish it, he said. “But the government completed the work in 18 months with its full capacity.”
The president said the project was finalized despite a range of difficulties, including crises, wars, sanctions and other issues, crediting managers and officials involved in the effort.
He said the railway’s inauguration demonstrated that Iran remained on a path of progress despite all challenges.
“We can show the world that, amid all these crises, our Iran continues on the path of development and efforts to solve problems,” Pezeshkian said, adding that the country would overcome its difficulties with the cooperation of officials, lawmakers and the public.
The Ardabil-Mianeh railway stretches 173 km and is intended to facilitate passenger and freight transportation while strengthening transport infrastructure in northwestern Iran.
