Iraq’s al-Sadr welcomes mourners arriving in Najaf and Karbala for Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral

Tehran, IRNA — Muqtada al-Sadr, a prominent Shia cleric and the leader of Iraq’s Sadrist Movement, has welcomed the people converging on the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala to attend the funeral and bid farewell to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

We welcome mourners of the martyr of Vilayat (guardianship), Jihad (struggle), and steadfastness, Sadr said in a message on Monday, referring to the scheduled funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Khamenei.
Addressing the Islamic Ummah and honoring the exalted status of Martyr Ayatollah Khamenei, he invited all the believers and pilgrims of the Arba’een of Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him) to participate in the funeral ceremony of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Stating that Iraq is honored with the presence of several Infallible Imams (PBUT), the cleric said the Arab country was also designated as a sanctuary and refuge for the living, the deceased among the faithful, and the martyrs.
Sadr’s message further noted that God Almighty has made Iraq a capital and a focal point for those who turn to it seeking knowledge and intercession.
The holy cities of Najaf and Karbala have prepared for historic funeral processions of Ayatollah Khamenei on Wednesday, the day, which is declared a public holiday in several Iraqi provinces, including in Baghdad.
