“If we were to speak of Imam Khamenei’s asceticism, courage, simple lifestyle, or sincerity, each of those qualities alone would amount to an ocean of virtue,” Abu Ala al-Walai said on Monday in an interview with Iran’s Al-Alam news network.
He emphasized that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was deeply concerned with the welfare of Islam and Muslims, saying that he transformed the principle of “rising for the sake of God” into the spirit of a revolution and the path of the oppressed around the world, leaving behind “an enduring legacy.”
The Iraqi resistance official also said that the martyred Leader’s vision was a continuation of the school of thought established by the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, adding that Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei consistently believed that the Palestinian cause was the foremost issue facing the Muslim world. “This conviction was not merely a political stance, but one rooted in his religious beliefs.”
Speaking about Ayatollah Khamenei’s approach to Iraq, Abu Ala al-Walai said the martyred Leader always emphasized the Arab country’s political and economic independence.
“The martyred Imam consistently underscored the importance of Iraq’s complete independence. He believed that safeguarding Iraq’s political decision-making from all foreign influence, especially that of the United States, was one of the country’s foremost priorities.
He also repeatedly emphasized the need for economic independence, arguing that financial dependence would, over time, give rise to security and military dependence as well.”
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was assassinated in an airstrike on his office and residence in Tehran on February 28, the first day of the recent US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.
A week-long memorial service for the martyred Leader began in Tehran on Friday, July 3, 2026, when senior officials from dozens of countries paid their respects to him.
The memorial service also included farewell ceremonies held on Saturday and Sunday, followed by funeral processions in Tehran and Qom on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
The commemorations will continue with memorial ceremonies in Iraq’s holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Wednesday, before the martyred Leader is laid to rest in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
