Sharif met with Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade, Mohammad Atabak, along with his delegation in Islamabad on Wednesday, as announced by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office.
During the meeting, Sharif said, “Pakistan greatly values its relations with its closest neighbor and brotherly country, the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Referring to the recent visit of the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Pakistan, he added, “Islamabad will continue its sincere efforts for peace in the region.”
Sharif said that he had productive discussions with Pezeshkian regarding the establishment of lasting peace in the region and the further enhancement of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in terms of trade cooperation.
The Pakistani prime minister expressed hope that through the continued efforts of both countries, the $10 billion trade target set by the leaders of Iran and Pakistan will be reached.
For his part, Atabak expressed gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for their sincere diplomatic efforts toward peace in the region and for their solidarity with Iran.
He also added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is eager to further enhance economic and trade relations with Pakistan.
During the meeting, both countries agreed to leverage their mutual capabilities to enhance trade, particularly in the exchange of goods, food products, and agricultural produce.
Additionally, Iran and Pakistan will work to increase border trade and improve their facilities to keep the border open 24 hours a day. They aim to streamline logistical and customs procedures as well.
