Iraq remains committed to security agreement with Iran: Security adviser

Tehran, IRNA – Iraqi National Security Adviser Qasim al-Aboudi says that Iraq remains committed to the joint security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran.

Al-Aboudi met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Thursday in Baghdad, according to Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen news network.
He said, “Iraq’s stability contributes to the stability of the region as a whole,” adding, “Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi’s government is committed to deepening ties with neighboring countries while expanding cooperation with the wider international community.”
Al-Aboudi further noted, “The Iraqi Constitution does not permit the presence of armed groups that threaten the security of other countries, and the government remains committed to ensuring that arms are held exclusively by the state.”
Ghalibaf, who arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday, met with several senior Iraqi officials, including his counterpart, Haibat al-Halbousi; President Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amidi; Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi; and the President of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan.
