Beijing terms US sanctions against Iran as illegal

Tehran, IRNA – Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian has offered China’s opposition to illegal unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and are not authorized by the UN Security Council.

Addressing his press briefing on Friday, Lin called on relevant parties to act responsibly and seek a solution through political and diplomatic means.
China calls for differences and disputes to be resolved through dialogue and consultation, he was quoted by Chinese media Global Times as saying.
China has consistently maintained that military means, sanctions and pressure are not conducive to resolving the issue. Instead, they will only heighten tensions and escalate the situation, which serves no party’s interests, he noted.
This position was taken after Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, declared new adversarial economic steps against Iran and appealed to China for cooperation with Washington.
