Hassan Ghashghavi, spokesman for the committee, said on Sunday that the provision was approved as part of a bill on strategic measures to ensure security and sustainable development in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
“The full name Persian Gulf must be used,” Ghashghavi told reporters after the committee’s meeting.
The committee also approved Article 10 of the bill, which had previously been left pending. Under the article, the construction, operation and development of communications and information technology infrastructure, including fibre-optic networks, in the Strait of Hormuz will require approval from relevant Iranian authorities.
Ghashghavi said implementing regulations for the provision must be drafted within three months of the law taking effect by the Defense Ministry, in coordination with the Communications Ministry, the Roads and Urban Development Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces, before being submitted to the cabinet for approval.
Article 13, covering regulations governing the passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz under rules applied by Iran, remains under review by the commission, he said.
The bill must still be approved in an open session of the parliament and later by the Guardian Council before it can become law.
