Speaking at the committee’s session in New York, the Iranian representative rejected allegations raised by the Israeli representative and said that Israel has sought since 2023 to divert attention from its actions against Palestinians and other countries in the region by making “baseless allegations” against others.
He said the international community’s inaction has allowed the scope of Israeli crimes to expand year after year.
Responding to Israeli remarks concerning the events of October 7, he said that from October 7, 2023, to October 7, 2026, an average of at least 70 to 75 people have been killed every day in the region by Israel.
He added that more than 75,000 Palestinians, as well as thousands of people in Iran and other countries in the region, have been killed during the period.
The Iranian representative also pointed to the killing of an average of 28 children every day in Gaza, saying the figure was equivalent to losing a classroom every day and demonstrated the scale of the killing of children.
Referring to Israeli attacks on Iranian families, he said 16 members of one family were killed in one attack merely because one of the family members was a university professor.
He described Israel as a serious threat to international peace and security, saying the term “child-killing regime” was an accurate description of Israel and that its officials could not evade responsibility for their crimes by making accusations against others.
Iran rejects US claims on civilian protection
The Iranian representative also responded to a claim by the US representative concerning Washington’s commitment to protecting civilians, citing the February 28 attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in Minab, southern Iran.
He said 168 children and teachers were killed in the attack, noting that the victims were between seven and 12 years old.
“They were learning, playing and waiting to return to the arms of their families. That was not a battlefield, but a primary school. They were not military personnel; they were just children,” he said.
The Iranian representative also called for an end to impunity for perpetrators of such crimes in accordance with international law.
