US warmongering disrupts global food security: Agriculture minister

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s agriculture minister has warned that US unilateralism and warmongering are disrupting global food security and the transportation of food and agricultural products, calling on international organizations to ensure everyone’s right to access food.

Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh made the remarks during a meeting with Qu Dongyu, the director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), at the organization’s headquarters in Rome, Italy.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, the two officials discussed the global food security situation and ways to expand cooperation between Iran and the FAO.

Nouri maintained that food security and access to food are fundamental rights of all people, urging international organizations, particularly the FAO, to play a more active role in addressing obstacles to food supply and transportation worldwide.

He also expressed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with the organization, saying the country has gained valuable experience in food security that it could share with the FAO and interested countries.

The Iranian minister called for broader technical and financial cooperation with the UN agency, highlighting Iran’s resilience amid mounting challenges.

“Over the past year, in addition to confronting decades of sanctions, we have also faced war, aggression and a blockade,” he said, adding that Iran’s economic and social resilience has demonstrated the ability of its food security system and agricultural production cycle to withstand crises.
