‘March of Folly’: Iran’s Embassy in London takes swipe at Trump after midterm rout

London, IRNA – The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the UK takes a jab at US President Donald Trump as his Republican Party loses control of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections.

“Now is a good time for Trump and his team to read Barbara Tuchman’s The March of Folly,” the Iranian Embassy wrote on its official X account on Wednesday, adding that “perhaps this has given them the hint.”

The message is accompanied by a satirical image of the US president reading the same book the Embassy advised him and his administration officials to go through, with Trump's hand resting on his forehead and an expression of concern.

Published for the first time in 1984, The March of Folly, authored by American historian Barbara Tuchman, is a thorough examination of events—ranging from the Trojan War to the Vietnam War—and explores how political and military decisions were made by regimes despite being aware of the detrimental consequences.

The Iranian Embassy’s message was released hours after the announcement of the results of the US midterm elections, in which Republicans—under Trump’s leadership—suffered a major defeat, while the Democrats secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

These elections took place against the backdrop of an illegal and unlawful war, jointly launched by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran. The economic fallout of the war, particularly rising energy prices and the strain on the cost of living, were among the central issues in American political discourse recently.
